BIG, Complexity eliminated as IEM New York reaches playoffs

The group stage of IEM New York’s European division came to a close on Friday, with fnatic and FaZe booking the last playoff spots at the expense of Complexity and BIG, respectively, joining Vitality and OG in this weekend’s single-elimination bracket.

Despite the 2-0 scoreline, Complexity and fnatic played out a very even and measured series, with very little separating the two teams. Even with Benjamin “blameF” Bremer and Valentin “poizon” Vasilev putting up solid numbers, the ‘Juggernaut’ was unable to stop their opponents, who broke their streak of group exits after failing to make the playoffs in ESL One Cologne and ESL Pro League Season 12. Complexity will return to action only at the end of the month in the BLAST Premier Fall Series, in which reported target Justin “jks” Savage could play his first match for the team.

BIG exit IEM New York in the group stage

Another team that seems to be finally hitting form is FaZe, who outclassed BIG with strong individual displays from Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Helvijs “broky” Saukants to secure their first playoff appearance since the BLAST Premier Spring Finals. The German team suffered their second group stage exit in their last three competitions and will be looking to right the ship in next week’s Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament, DreamHack Open Fall.

Below is the schedule for the playoff matches:
